Data

All data stored in the EPD are publicly available and free to use. Any use of data from the EPD should cite the original publications whenever possible and also acknowledge the EPD database. Example: "Pollen data were extracted from the European Pollen Database (http://www.europeanpollendatabase.net/)".

In no circumstances should authorship be attributed to data contributors, individually or collectively, without their explicit consent. For more details concerning the data-sharing policy please refer to the Data Policy of the EPD.

New data are accepted from contributors and added to the database continuously (What's New). Users of the database can help improve the database by informing the Database Manager of any errors they find in the data. For questions or to report errors or contribute corrections, especially with regard to data, please contact the EPD Data Manager.

There are a number of different ways to find and access data in the European Pollen Database:

To browse individual sites and their data.

We are currently transferring EPD data to Neotoma, so that it will be possible to access individual datasets using the Neotoma explorer. While this work is ongoing, we will not incorporate new datasets in the EPD database nor release a new downloadable EPD version. Meanwhile, all new data submitted to the EPD are available as individual files here.

Fossil Pollen Database (FPD) Viewer
With FPD you can find sites and data by country or investigator or site name, or by locating them on a map. After selecting a site you can examine or download the data as well as some summary metadata. The Fossil Pollen Database has an extensive tool for visualising (graphing) taxa from one or more sites. It was developed by Nicolas Garnier at MEDIAS-France in close cooperation with the African Pollen Database (Anne-Marie Lezine).

Neotoma Database: The NeotomaExplorer webpage allows multi-level queries (e.g. search by site name, taxon name, and age ranges). However, the data available in Neotoma are not yet up-to-date.

Pangaea: The EPD is mirrored (backed up) in the pangaea.de database,. The Pangaea website allows searching datasets, browsing individual sites and downloading data.

To download the entire database:

Download the entire EPD database and documentation (most recent version and older versions).
